Recent work – Updated

I have recently ended a contract at the George Eastman House. Below are all the relevant websites that I created during my time there. I will put an (*) near some of the work because the final outcome was not the work that I initially created, but rather a consensus of departments who felt changes needed to be made to effectively approach the topic.

http://933university.org/ * — this site was created in WordPress that initially had SEO and Social Media functionality built into it. At the discretion of other departments with no known explanation, removed that functionality. The navigation bar, page functionality, and other marketing abilities that would otherwise give this website a better chance at a wider audience, were removed.

http://www.eastmanhouse.org/takeaseat/  * — I walked into this project midway through when the previous developer quit. The design and functionality was already chosen for me, which meant that there was a limited amount of room to make changes that would have benefitted this webpage. This was my first project at Eastman.

http://dryden.eastmanhouse.org/ — worked on this WordPress site a great deal to give it functionality it needed to be viewed in a mobile browser. I managed to fix browser compatibility issues, plugin issues that plagued the site’s performance for months, as well as add functionality to ease the admin’s daily workload.

http://www.eastmanhouse.org/events/dryden.php – I created this page from a wireframe for the reopening of the Dryden Theatre after its renovations.

Eastmanhouse.org — I updated and changed many of the pages to reflect new content.

http://eastmanhouse.org/nycgala/gallery.html — created this gallery for the NYC Gala pictures

http://eastmanhouse.org/features/kodak-advertising/ — This is a standalone CMS gallery that was needed to fill a place where the previous pictures were displayed at eastmanhouse.org/kodak-advertising/

http://eastmanhouse.org/features/82films/ the last project I worked on. This was still in the beginning phases of design. Ultimately the Javascript video player would generate a file stored in a MySQL database, along with the curation information along the right-hand side.

Aside from that, I also consulted on the state of the website, its need for change, and the new Drupal CMS they were going to roll out in the next few months. Among the things discussed was the lack of SEO and Social Media presence for Eastman, providing departments easier access to the web for workflow productivity, and an overall consult on the Marketing and future of Eastman’s web presence. A link to the document can be found below. This document is considered a very MACRO view and did not get into any “hard numbers crunching” that I would have done if I had the time. As it stood, the document is 20 pages single spaced and took about 3 days to write. The paper outlines a SWOT Analysis, a Marketing Analysis, Recommendations, and future steps.

I have also worked on a friend’s site under the Antmore Technologies auspices. I updated the HTML and CSS and implemented a CodeIgniter framework for the site structure. Graphically, there was no real change, but the previous developer wrote archaic HTML and the site was beginning to break down.

I am also working with three new YEA teams this year and their product/service websites will be posted in the next couple of weeks. I decided this time around to build WordPress sites for the groups instead of a CodeIgniter framework because I wanted to hand over site content to the users. I decided since these websites may outlive my interaction with the students, they can add content or pages to their site without much programming knowledge. Instead of having the trouble of finding specific web development vendors for future additions to their site, they can do most of the work and have the large WordPress community to help them. I truly believe that this will enhance the YEA learning perspective and help the groups have more control over their intellectual property.
